Using a Google Doc, that needs to be shared with me, write up your analysis of of the BBC news article: 'China's Ghost Weddings and Why They Can be Deadly'. Remember, this is an entire analysis that needs to be written up of all sections on the 'Analysis of a Newspaper Article' handout (Introduction, Layout, Audience / Purpose, Language, Tone, Bias, Interviews, Message, Personal Preference). This document can be found on the Weebly under the Unit 1 News page under the Subheading ' Deconstruction - General'. It is the second document in that section, labelled 'Deconstructing One News Article'. Be sure to use the PEE structure throughout. In the Audience / Purpose section, ignore the question about news values. Remember to give each section of work the right subheading.

Be sure to use the PEE structure throughout and the Analysis of a Newspaper Article handout to enable you to answer the questions properly. In the Layout section, ignore the questions about Strapline, Standfirst and Font. Also, in the Audience / Purpose section, ignore the question about news values. Remember to give each section of work the right subheading.

Task One:
Using the handout on bias, try and identify the different types of bias that you can spot in the news article from the Los Angeles Times on gun crime. Annotate these different types directly on to the news article.
Task Two:
Using the 'Analysis of a Newspaper Article' handout, write up your responses to the Language and Tone of the Los Angeles Times article on gun crime. You need to write using the PEE (Point, Evidence in the form of a quote from the text, and Explanation) structure. These need to be written as 2 separate paragraphs in your exercise book. Give each paragraph its relevant sub-heading (i.e. Language and Tone).

You need to share this document with me so that I can check over it. We will also be using some of the key terms from that document in tomorrow's lesson, so this is a good time to check what you have understood about the terminology so far.

Please make sure that you bring your Emotive Language worksheet homework with you as I will be taking this in tomorrow.

Please share with me your Tabloid article rewrites of the Pit Bull Dog Attack story that you wrote in pairs / individually.

Remember, to find a definition of each type of newspaper and give examples of the types of newspaper or types of stories that might appear in each type of newspaper. If you cannot find your handout, you can go to my Weebly and go to the Unit 1 page - A Window to the World: News. If you scroll down to the heading News as a Genre, you will find the document you need. It is the ninth document in the list.

When completing the first page of the worksheet you can list the different types of stories that you tend to find in the tabloid and broadsheet news websites that you have looked at (aim to look at about 3-4 websites for each type of newspaper - 6-8 websites on total). You can make a list in bullet points (e.g. politics, war, sports, celebrity etc.)
Page 2 of the worksheet asks you to note similarities and differences that you find between the types of newspapers. Some things that you may want to look at could be the types of stories covered, the language used, the length of paragraphs, the layout etc.)
The answers to page 3 of the worksheet need to be written in your exercise books. You will be making notes on articles that you find on the websites that you have already researched. you need to make notes for both Tabloid and Broadsheet news websites. Captions refers to the words beneath an image that describe what the image is and Copy means the words used in the article.

This is the first document under the News as a Genre section of the Weebly. Create a google document and copy and paste the URL links to the news stories that you find. Be sure to label each URL with the type of news story that it is. Please share this Google Document with me.
