Write the blurb for your own autobiography. Look at the length of the blurb on the Powerpoint slide and aim for approximately the same amount of words (50-60). Remember, the point of the blurb on the back of the book is to sell the book. Therefore, you will need to sell the story of your life to potential readers. What details will you include? How will you grab the reader's interest and make them excited about reading your book? What life stories will you include?? Remember to write about yourself in the Third Person and give your autobiography a title!! Refer to the PPT called 'Boy - The Blurb' on the Unit 2 page of the Y7 Weebly. It is the fourth document under the sub-heading, 'An Introduction to Boy', which can be found under the green heading Introductory Activities' heading.

Rehearse your presentations. Remember to consider the following details:

- Speak clearly, loudly and confidently (don't use fillers - 'erm', 'err', 'like', 'kind of', 'sort of', 'you know' and 'yeah'. Also, speak accurately, articulating your words. Use proper intonation and an appropriate pace. Remember, you can pause rather than use fillers.

- Presenting versus reading
- Introduce and conclude the presentation.
- Try to maintain eye contact
- Don't use a script, only use cue cards with bullet points of the key things you want to say and remember your transitions on your cue cards to introduce each part of your presentation and the speaker.

Task Two - Complete pages 1 and 2 of the worksheet: 'The Veldt - Continuing with the Story'. You only have to answer up to and including Question 4 on page 2. Paragraphs 223-241 can be found on Page 12 form "The two children were in hysterics..." down to a quarter of the way down page 13 where Lydia says, "'I'll be glad when we get away' she sighed."
Task Three: Complete the Theme table. The first column requires you to look at the section of the story from Paragraph 223 on page 12 to very near the bottom of page 13 that ends with the sentence, "The lions." The first row of the second column requires you to look at the bottom of page 8 that starts, "'Father?' said Peter. 'Yes'" to page 9 where Peter says, "'I don't want to do anything but look and listen and smell' what else is there to do'?" The second row of this column requires you to look at halfway down page 10 from, "David McClean laughed dryly." to halfway down page 11 at, "'But won't the shock be too much fro the children, shutting up the room abruptly for good?'"

You will be presenting your findings about Shirley Jackson's use of foreshadowing and her presentation of theme in the short story 'The Lottery' in Monday's lesson. So you need to make sure that you have completed your work on foreshadowing or theme, depending on what you are looking at.
For those of you working on foreshadowing, please note that references to sentences 10 and 11-19 is actually menat to read paragraphs 10 and 11-19 (Sorry for the mistake)!!! We will be in the library on Monday but we will be continuing with class work, so make sure you bring all of the things you need for English class to that lesson.
